A meeting of the heads of all the parliamentary parties chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to address their concerns over China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) ended with a consensus to form steering committee comprising chief ministers of four provinces
Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah didn’t attend the meeting as reportedly he was given belated invitation for the meeting.
The steering committee will meet after every three months to review progress of the project.
Talking to media after the meeting, KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said he was assured that reservations of the Khyber Pakhtonkhwa will be addressed.
“We back the CPEC project,” he said, adding we are producing more electricity than consumption but not getting equal rights.
PTI’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the PM had assurance redressal of concerns regarding the corridor project.
He told the media that prime minister had agreed to constitute a committee in this regard.
Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq said the PM once again reiterated his old promises in the meeting. He said the overall meeting has been a success.
The first such ‘All Parties Conference’ on the CPEC was held on May 28, 2015.
The two provinces which have reservations over CPEC are Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtonkhwa.
The Conference has been called to build consensus among political parties and remove any concerns they have regarding the mega project.
